A terrified couple shared a life jacket after being stranded in shark-infested waters near Tampa Bay, Florida earlier this week.

They rescued one person from on board the boat before rescuing the man and woman who were holding on to life jackets.

When he rescued the man, he replied, “Thank you.”

Once safely aboard, he joked that officials had a “bad boat” before the pair were returned to their boat, which they were able to restart.

Sheriff Chad Chronister said the incident “could have ended very differently” had the deputies not been patrolling the waters.

He said: “With summer just around the corner, I would like to remind all boaters to ensure their vessels are in good condition and to wear a life jacket at all times.

“These simple steps can mean the difference between a beautiful day on the water or tragedy.”

It comes days after a group of tourists were seriously injured following the horrifying moment when a humpback whale crashed into their ship.

The collision happened just off the coast of Mexico when a tourist boat was catapulted high into the air after the boat crashed into the sea creature’s back.

The shocking video footage also shows a number of passengers being thrown into the sea. The collision has reportedly resulted in five injuries, three of which remained hospitalized and one was reported seriously injured in the incident, the Daily Star reported.

Local reports have confirmed an investigation is underway to find out why the tour boat failed to keep a safe distance between the whales, with reports suggesting the boat exceeded the speed limit.

The state’s civil protection agency shared footage of the incident, which appeared to show tourists falling through the boat’s cover and being thrown high into the air after the collision.

Civil Protection spokesman Benjamin Garcia told local media that the boatmen may not have been aware of the whale’s presence, saying: “The whale came out of the sea and bumped into the boat, causing some passengers to fall and be injured.

“Three people were hospitalized, one seriously, and two others were treated at the port.”
