Courteney Cox had an interesting take on Brad Pitt’s romance with Angelina Jolie following his split from Jennifer Aniston

Courteney Cox and Jennifer Ansiton first met on the set of Friends in 1994 and have been best friends ever since.

It was Courteney – who turns 58 today – who picked up the pieces when Brad Pitt left Jennifer and hooked up with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star Angelina Jolie in 2005, leaving Jen devastated.

And in one vanity fair Interviewed in 2005, Jennifer, then 36, couldn’t hide her heartbreak when the interviewer brought up the topic of Brad’s new romance with Angelina Jolie.

The reporter described how the actress looked like she’d been “stabbed in the heart” when asked about rumors Ange was already pregnant — two months before Jen and Brad’s divorce was even finalized — the reporter told Jen cried silently for several minutes, unable to stop the tears rolling down her cheeks before shaking her head, too hurt to answer.

The line of friends was that he wanted to find out what he wanted in life – as a single man – and that he reassured Jen that it had nothing to do with another woman.

Whether she believed the gossip that Brad and Ange had a full-blown affair — claims both have denied — Jennifer insisted she’d chosen to believe Brad, though she admitted she wasn’t “surprised” by anything.

However, the strength of her faith was shaken when a picture surfaced of Brad playing the doting father of Angelina’s adopted son Maddox on the beach in Africa on April 29.

Then came a 60-page photo spread from W magazine called Domestic Bliss, which showed Brad and Ange as a 1960s-style married couple surrounded by blonde mini Brads.

This was too much for Jen. All the more painful was the fact that Brad had come up with the idea himself and had retained the international rights and made a profit from it.

“There’s a sensitivity chip missing,” Jen admitted. “He makes his decisions. He can – whatever. We’re divorced and you can see why.”

But it was her longtime friend Courteney who surprisingly turned out in Brad’s defense. She and ex-husband David Arquette had vacationed with Brad and Jen in Anguilla shortly before their divorce announcement and were good friends with the couple.

“I don’t think he tried to hurt Jen, I don’t think Brad is malicious or a liar. That W The thing was his idea, but I don’t think he thought about how it would look for others,” she protested to the same publication.

She also sensationally revealed that Brad actually had a crush on Angelina and had been open with Jennifer about it.

Describing it as “an attraction he fought,” Courteney continued, “I don’t think he physically started an affair, but I do think he was attracted to her. There was a connection and he was honest with Jen. Most of the time, when people are attracted to other people, they don’t say it. At least he was honest.”

These days, Brad is on excellent terms with both Jennifer and Courteney, having been reunited after his difficult divorce from Angelina in 2016.

Brad also took the rare step of making a public statement in 2011 after calling his marriage to Jen “boring” in an interview with Parade magazine.

“I spent the ’90s hiding, trying to avoid all the celebrity cacophony. I was starting to get tired of sitting on a couch, holding a joint and hiding. It felt pathetic. It became very clear to me. I really wanted to find a film about an interesting life, but I didn’t have an interesting life myself,” he said.

“I think my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend marriage is something it wasn’t.”

The Fight Club actor later apologized and insisted he was to blame for his own boredom, hailing his ex as “an incredibly generous, loving and hilarious woman.”

He explained, “The point I wanted to make isn’t that Jen was boring, it’s that I was boring to myself — and I’m responsible for that.”
