Craig Hassall, director of Royal Albert Hall, resigns next year

Royal Albert Hall chief executive Craig Hassall will step down at the start of the 2023 season, it has been announced.

After six years in this role, he will take over as president and chief executive officer of Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio.

Hassall, 57, said: “After six wonderful years at the Hall, the time has come for me to bid farewell.

“I really love working with the team, and despite all the recent challenges we have faced, it has been a great privilege to lead Royal Albert Hall through some great (and some difficulty!).”

Mr Hassall joined the London venue in 2017 and led the show last year on its 150th anniversary.

He also helped the Hall navigate its plan for survival and recovery through the Covid-19 pandemic and oversaw the refurbishment of the Grade I-listed site.

Ian McCulloch, president of Royal Albert Hall, said: “We have benefited from Craig’s many talents for almost six years.

“During this term, Craig has accomplished a lot for the benefit of the Hall and the wider cultural sector.

“He has played a vital role in sustaining us through the Covid-19 pandemic, in enhancing our reputation and allowing the Hall to reach an even wider audience.

“He will leave us with our deep gratitude and goodwill.”
