Strictly speaking: Craig Revel Horwood finally gives a 10 in the final

Craig Revel Horwood has revealed how judges on hit show Strictly Come Dancing are paid two days’ wages despite only working one.

The 57-year-old dance show judge made the shocking revelation on the opening night of his one-man tour, titled The All Balls And Glitter Tour.

During his tour opener at Cheltenham Town Hall, Craig was asked about his role on the show and surprised viewers with his salary announcement.

The sun reports him saying, “We were paid for Saturday and Sunday, but now I only have to do one day and get paid for both.”

He went on to confess that he almost decided against being on the show all together when it first launched in 2004.

He described how his manager and agent urged him to attend, although Craig himself thought the idea sounded like car accident television.

He continued, “Celebrities trying to dance in three weeks are dancing with a professional partner who has been dancing their entire lives.

“I thought it was never going to work – absolutely awful.”

Despite twisting his arm, he admitted he still wasn’t sure about the show and felt he had to “just get over it.”

And he revealed that both he and Len Goodman didn’t expect the inaugural series to last longer than three weeks.

“Three weeks went by and viewership started to skyrocket, and then it captured the hearts and minds of the nation,” he revealed.

He admits he loves the show now and is glad he stuck with it – especially since it’s now in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the most-produced format in the world.

Ahead of this year’s series, Craig said he supports Anton DuBeke on the judging panel, raising further doubts about Bruno Tonioli’s future.

He said: “I’m so glad he’s finally a judge now. You know there’s only so many years that you can stand with the dancing in the front row, then the second, then the third row, and then the fourth, and then the only place of mere death is the grand piano.

“I was glad they got him off the dance floor and put him where he belongs. Well done Anton. I hope he comes back next year, I’m sure he will.”

A fixture on the show from the start, Bruno was present for the first 17 series, appeared via video link for series 18 and then stepped down for Anton last year.
