Crawley man jailed for attempted sexual assault on woman in 70s

A MAN has been jailed for attempting to sexually assault a woman in his 70s.

Kaspars Grikis has been a registered sex offender for five years since he sexually assaulted four women in a Crawley supermarket in 2020.

The 38-year-old admitted attempted sexual contact with the elderly woman near his home on July 22 this year.

Crawley Magistrates’ Court heard that he had approached the woman he did not know and tried to engage her in conversation. Then he touched her and tried to kiss her.

She resisted and the police were informed.

Grikis, from Clappers Gate, Crawley, has been sentenced to 12 months in prison and faces a further five years on the sex offenders’ register.

He was also given an injunction until further notice, prohibiting him from any contact with the woman.

Police Officer Mat Wyatt said: “Grikis has been a registered sex offender for five years, having been convicted of sexually assaulting four women at a Crawley supermarket in June 2020.

“The new five-year obligation imposed on August 2 will put him under our supervision for a total of ten years from 2020.

“When the incident was reported in July, we took immediate action to protect the victim by ensuring that this persistent offender was brought back to court, which will now give him the maximum prison sentence for that crime, freeing him from the Street and further imposed restrictions on his conduct.” Crawley man jailed for attempted sexual assault on woman in 70s
