Cristiano Ronaldo is “allowed to have bad games” – and that’s when he Manchester United teammates need to step up to follow Dimitar Berbatov.
The Portuguese star returned to Old Trafford in the summer after more than a decade away.
However, his signing coincided with a notable drop, which eventually saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer job loss.
Ronaldo, despite being the club’s top scorer, has recently gone on a six-game streak without a goal and has struggled to find the back of the net since the new year.
Berbatov played alongside United’s No 7 during his first stint at Manchester and doesn’t think it’s fair that he has faced such criticism.

He told Betfair: “When teams have bad results, the star players are always to blame and at the minute with Manchester Untied it was Cristiano Ronaldo.
“At the moment, he has only one goal in ten games and that seems to be a problem for everyone, but not for me.
“There are 11 players on the pitch and blame should be shared. Ronaldo is an icon in the world of football and everyone needs to remember that he is 37 years old.
“So he’s allowed to have a few bad games from time to time. But I don’t think that’s the point here.”
Ronaldo’s only goal in 2022 came to Brighton at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese star has had to adapt to a new style, as have his teammates, following the arrival of Ralf Rangnick.
Ronaldo, as has been the case for more than a decade, attracted attention and some of his antics and gestures were muted.
However, Berbatov insists his supporting cast must do more to compliment the striker’s maturity.

“People need to be realistic with him and they need to know that it’s completely different when you’re 37 to 27,” the Bulgarian added.
“He will have moments where he needs his teammates to produce more for him, that’s normal in football. Ronaldo is a professional player and he will talk to the manager and him. he will want to produce more.
“Everybody in the United team needs to be more productive, the standards have to be a lot higher than they are now.
“Ronaldo is also a down-to-earth guy, he will know that his performance is not what he wants, even though he is older and his play style is completely different, he sets high standards. very high standards. I don’t think that needs explaining. him.”
