Manchester United hat-trick hero Cristiano Ronaldo handed the ball to youngster Alejandro Garnacho after helping Ralf Rangnick’s side win over Norwich City First League.

Ronaldo’s goals helped Rangnick’s side secure an unconvincing victory, with goals from Kieran Dowell and Teemu Pukki that brought the Premier League bottoms back from 2-0 to 2-2 ahead of the veteran winner. However with Tottenham and Arsenal both losethe result lifts United back into the running Champions League Soccer.

Youngster Garnacho was included in a Premier League matchday squad for the first time, despite remaining on the bench when United clinched a win. And then describes his teammate as the ‘greatest of all time’ The teenager was rewarded by Ronaldo after the game.

Garnacho’s first matchday appearance came after being called up to Argentina’s senior squad for the first time in March. He has now trained with Ronaldo and Lionel Messi before making his senior bow.

The 17-year-old has played for United’s Under-21s at the Papa John’s Trophy and was included in the squad for the Norwich game alongside fellow talent Hannibal. His involvement dates back to a starring role in the FA Youth Cup, with Garnacho recording five goals and three assists in five games to help his side reach the final.

He didn’t make it onto the pitch, with Rangnick opting for Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford. After the game, however, he could be seen exchanging words with Ronaldo as the veteran passed the ball.

Ronaldo spoke to Garnacho as the players left the pitch



Rangnick spoke glowingly of Garnacho before the game and told MUTV : “He has been training with us for the past two weeks and is one of the most promising players. He’s only 17 but if he keeps his feet on the ground not only will he be on the bench but he’ll play for this club.”

Ronaldo’s hat-trick was his third for United and his second since returning to the club in August. However, Rangnick warned his side not to rely on their top scorer’s magic.

“We shouldn’t just rely on him,” the German told dem BBC after the game. “It’s still possible [to get top four]results elsewhere have been good, but again it doesn’t make sense that we’re still just looking at the other results – we need to make sure we’re improving our performance and getting more physical.

Thanks to Spurs’ midday loss at home to Brighton and Arsenal’s loss southamptonUnited are just three points adrift of the top four with six games to play. However, their next league game is against the title hunt Liverpool and Rangnick admitted the team needs to be at their best to have any chance of victory.
