Manchester United needed Cristiano Ronaldo to save them again and the striker’s hat-trick against Norwich City has netted him a ton of cash
The Portuguese star gave the Red Devils a 2-0 lead in front of him at Old Trafford bagged a late winner from 25 yards from the Stretford End. Ronaldo has now scored 21 goals for United this season and his efforts continue to keep them in contention for the top four despite several underperformances.
Ronaldo returned to Manchester in the summer after a 12-year absence real Madrid and juventus. Several performance-related incentives were included in his contract. One was a £750,000 bonus should he break the 20-goal barrier. On top of that, he gets £100,000 for every goal he scores The sun.
Ronaldo has scored at least 20 goals in each of his last 16 seasons – since his first spell at United. There are six games left this season which means the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could be in for some huge bonuses. He continues to be the focus of United’s attack which improves his chances.
The 37-year-old is also set to earn £1million should he become the team’s top scorer. Currently Bruno Fernandes is his closest competition, with the Portuguese star scoring nine goals. It means that the No. 7 will almost certainly make more financial gains.
Time is against him but should he score 30 goals this season he will earn around £2.75million in goal-related bonuses on top of his already gigantic salary. Ralf Rangnick has told his players that after Saturday’s win they can no longer rely on Ronaldo to pull them out of difficult situations.
Will Ronaldo still play at ManU next season? Let us know in the comments
Despite his contributions, the Portuguese star’s future is very uncertain. Erik ten Hag is expected to come this summer and has reservations. He has reportedly given the green light for Ronaldo’s departure as he sets about shaping the squad at Old Trafford. The Ajax boss will try to use certain tactics that seem at odds with the striker’s games.
Rangnick made no assurances about Ronaldo’s future, insisting the decision was up to the new man. “It’s not my decision in the end,” he told reporters. “Cristiano has another year of contract. This will be a decision that the new manager will have to make together with the board.
“Again he pointed against it Tottenham and today’s game, that in moments like this, in games like this, he can make the difference and it’s no coincidence that he has the best goal record of any player in history. He showed that again today.”
