Crown series one has entered Netflix’s global top 10, streamer reveals

The first The Crown movie broke into Netflix’s global top 10 for the week of September 5-11, it has been revealed.

His series landed at number seven for English-language TV shows, with nearly 17.6 million hours watched globally.

The weekly post said: “HRH Queen Elizabeth II has been in the hearts and minds of viewers.

“Fans re-watched Season 1 of The Crown, which entered the list at number seven for the first time with 17.57 million hours watched.”

Claire Foy plays the Queen in the first series, which debuted to high reviews in November 2016, alongside Matt Smith as the Duke of Edinburgh and John Lithgow as Winston Churchill.

The series follows the Queen from her marriage to Philip in 1947 until her first Prime Minister, Churchill, resigned in 1955.

It also took place the death of King George VI and the subsequent enthronement of the Queen.

Vanessa Kirby portrayed Princess Margaret and much of the series was also spent telling the story of her romance with RAF officer Peter Townsend.

Filming of the latest series of The Crown was halted following the Queen’s death last Thursday.

A Netflix spokesperson confirmed: “As a matter of respect, filming on The Crown has been halted for today. Filming will also be halted on the day of the Queen’s funeral.

The upcoming fifth series of the lavish royal drama, which will now air in November, will star Dominic West as Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Princess of Wales.

The Crown was scheduled to end after the fifth series, but the show’s creator and writer Peter Morgan later said it would be extended to include a sixth season.

Elsewhere in Netflix’s global top 10 for English-language TV programming, Karate Kid’s newly released Thursday TV series, Cobra Kai, topped the list with 106.7 million hours watched.

Limited-time horror series Devil In Ohio came in second with 70,810,000 views while sci-fi show The Imperfects came in third with 24,070,000 views.

New dating show Dated And Related is fourth, dark fantasy drama The Sandman, based on Neil Gaiman’s DC Comics comic book series, is fifth and legal drama Partner Track is sixth.

While the sci-fi series was fourth, Stranger Things trailed behind The Crown at number eight with 16,560,000 hours watched. Crown series one has entered Netflix’s global top 10, streamer reveals
