Premier League players stop taking their knees every game
The Premier League returns tonight when Arsenal travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in the opening game of the 2022/23 season. Mikel Arteta’s men are looking to take the next step in their progression and finish in the top four after narrowly missing out on north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur last season.
After encouraging results last season and a seemingly competent transfer deal, there is renewed optimism in the Emirates. They will be supported this season by strong newcomers who have brought in a new frontman in Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and the versatile Oleksandr Zinchenko. Both players know Arteta, who was an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola before taking the top job at Arsenal.
The Gunners were also there for the season opener last year when they suffered a 2-0 defeat at then newly promoted Brentford. Patrick Vieiras Palace will be hoping to repeat that result tonight, although the manager admits his side are short on players after a frustrating transfer window. Vieira impressed in his debut season with the Eagles and is looking to add some momentum to the season with a win early in the season.

Cheik Doucoure takes the ball and puts it wide to Eberechi Eze. Eze’s cross meets Wilfried Zaha, whose volley is deflected backwards.
However, Eze is flagged offside and there is a goal kick.

This time the corner is swung into the middle of the penalty area and Vicente Guaita confidently hits his line to clear it.
