Crystal Palace vs Arsenal predicted lineups: team news ahead of tonight’s Premier League game

Arsenal will look to get their Premier League top-four bid off to a successful start when they open the season at Crystal Palace under the lights at Selhurst Park tonight.

Mikel Arteta’s side narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Champions League last season, losing to rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the fourth-place race, but have made significant gains in the transfer market over the summer.

The arrival of Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City and his pre-season form are raising optimism in the Emirates as they look to avoid another shock opener defeat.

Arsenal were beaten by Brentford in Friday night’s Premier League opener last season and Patrick Vieira’s side will look to repeat the trick at Selhurst Park. Vieira has overseen an impressive first season with the Eagles but has admitted his team has few numbers available after a frustrating transfer window.

Crystal Palace v Arsenal team news

James McArthur, James Tomkins and Michael Olise are absent for Crystal Palace, while new goalkeeper Sam Johnson is also sidelined with an injury sustained last season. The signing of midfielder Cheick Doucoure from Lens is causing a stir and he will make his debut in midfield. The back four is in place and although Palace are now without Conor Gallagher after the midfielder’s return to Chelsea, Wilfred Zaha remains the key man at Selhurst Park.

Arsenal have some injury doubts of their own ahead of the new season with Emile Smith Rowe, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kieran Tierney and new signing Fabio Vieira all set for late fitness tests. Oleksandr Zinchenko will make his full debut at left-back in Tierney’s absence, while Gabriel Jesus will lead the line. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli will provide support on the wings.

Expected Lineups

Crystal Palace: Guaita; Clyne, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Doucoure, Eze, Schlupp; Ayew, Edouard, Zaha

Arsenal: Ramsdale; Cedric, Gabriel, Weiss, Zinchenko; Partey, Xhaka; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus

Crystal Palace: 16/5

Draw: 14.5

Arsenal: 4/5

It’s time for Arsenal: can they live up to last season’s optimism or will this be another opening flop? Mikel Arteta’s side are far more stable than they were this time last year and the additions of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko will make the difference. The Gunners are certainly ahead of Palace in terms of their pre-season preparations and I’m backing Arteta’s side to negotiate a tough atmosphere and a tough opening win.
