Dad agrees to take daughter to get her hair cut – but the trimming leaves mom in tears

A father has said he took his daughter for a haircut after she told him she hates having long hair – but the cut has left the girl’s mother in tears at her new look

A father who took his eight-year-old daughter for a haircut because she “hated” having long hair claimed his wife was so upset by the cut that she burst into tears.

Posting on Reddit, the father explained that his daughter Anna has curly blonde hair that his wife “adores” and spends hours brushing, braiding and styling it every day.

And while Anna’s mum is ‘obsessed’ with her daughter’s hair, the schoolgirl hates long locks and recently asked if she could get it cut – but her mum ignores her requests.

In his postsaid the girl’s father: “Anna has very thick, blond and curly hair, which my wife loves. Since she was a toddler she would spend hours every day doing her hair, braiding it, straightening it and styling it in all sorts of ways. I think it’s more than fair to say that my wife has become a bit obsessed with the whole hair thing is.

“However, Anna has never particularly liked getting her hair done or doing anything that requires her to sit still for more than a few minutes.

“Before she had it cut, her hair was past her waist. And while it looked pretty, she hated getting it brushed and every morning was a screaming feast between her and my wife.

“Lately she’s been begging for a shorter haircut. My wife ignored them every time the subject was brought up, hoping she would forget, but none of that happened.

“I think Anna realized that she wasn’t going anywhere with her mum because she started asking me to take her with me instead.

“I was against it at first because I didn’t know how my wife would react, but I agreed after seeing how excited the kid was about something as simple as a haircut.”

The man took Anna to the hairdresser’s and when the little one was flipping through the styling magazines, she found a hairstyle she really wanted – a “really short paper cut”.

Even though Anna’s father knew the cut would get him in trouble with his wife, he couldn’t believe how happy the cut was making his daughter, so he agreed to let her have it.

And when Anna’s mother saw the cut, she was devastated – and even started to cry.

The man added: “She went for a really short clipper cut and I knew I was going to be in deep shit with my wife. At this point, however, there was no going back.

“We continued with the haircut and in the end Anna couldn’t stop smiling.

“However, when my wife returned home from work that day, things quickly took a turn for the worse. She refused to even look at Anna, locked herself in her room and cried, then got in the car and drove away.

“I knew she wouldn’t react well to the haircut, but I didn’t expect her to take it so badly. The kid is upset too, and no matter how much I assure her, she still thinks she’s in trouble for getting her hair cut.”

Commenters on the Reddit post were equally stunned by the mother’s response, with many telling the father his daughter should be free to style her hair however she pleases.

One person said: “You are a good parent when you listen to your child. You do need to talk to your wife, though, because her reaction to a haircut isn’t healthy behavior.”

While another added: “My mum never gave me a choice on how I got my haircut, I’m in my 40s now and I still resent her. It’s just hair. Your wife is far too dramatic.”
