Dame Angela Lansbury has been hailed as “one of the last stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age” and a “Broadway and West End icon” after her death.
Film, TV and live theater heavyweights paid tribute online to Murder star She Wrote after news of her death was announced on Tuesday.
Elaine Paige, Josh Gad and Modern Family star Jesse Tyler Ferguson were among those who shared memories of meeting the famous actress.
West End star Paige said Dame Angela was “always kind and generous” when they met.
“So sad to hear the legendary Dame Angela Lansbury has passed away,” Paige tweeted, sharing a photo of them together.
“One of the last Golden Ages of Hollywood stars and an icon of Broadway & West End.
“Always kind and generous when I meet her. She will be very sad. Dearest RIP Angela. “
Gad also shared a photo of herself with Dame Angela, saying she has “touched four generations” with her work.
He said on Twitter: “It’s rare that one person can touch generations, creating a breadth of work that defines decade after decade. Angela Lansbury is that artist.

Ferguson recalled sitting next to her at the theater and how they had begun a lengthy conversation.
“I will never forget sitting next to Angela Lansbury on an opening night,” he tweeted.
“Even though I had to pee, I still wouldn’t leave my seat during the break. Instead, I spent 15 minutes chatting with her.
“She’s absolutely adorable and I’m so glad I got to spend that little time with her. RIP Angela. “
American actress Mia Farrow said it was “honored” to work with Dame Angela.
“Gratitude to the gorgeous Angela Lansbury who gave us so many great performances,” she wrote.
“It was an honor to work with her and to know her as a friend. Thank you dearest Angie. Love forever. “
Other famous names to have paid tribute are Canadian author Margaret Attwood, Star Trek star George Takei and actor Jason Watkins.
Watkins, who starred in The Crown and Des, shared a photo of Dame Angela Lansbury as a young woman, wearing a purple dress with her hair pulled up.
“Eight decades as an actor,” he said. One of the great things. An extraordinary presence. Rest in peace.”
Takei said: “Angela Lansbury, who has been on stage for decades, won five Tony Awards and brought the beautiful Jessica Fletcher into our living room for a decade, has passed.
“An old story, our dear Mrs. Potts would sing lullabies to us from the stars. Rest in peace, wonderful soul.”
Dame Angela is a recipient of numerous awards, including six Tony Awards – recently winning a special lifetime achievement award at the 2022 ceremony.
Sharing a video of her 1969 lead actress during a musical award acceptance speech, the official Tonys account described her as “the ultimate universe lover”.
“For the person who hosts more Tony Awards than anyone else and has won six #TonyAwards, including the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Theater this past June, we are heartbroken. grateful.”
