Dances With Wolves actor charged with sex abuse and trafficking

A former Dances With Wolves actor has appeared in court in Nevada accused of sexually abusing and trafficking Native American girls.

the judge adjourned Nathan Chasing Horse’s bail application.

The delay until Wednesday to allow Chasing Horse, 46, to change attorneys was announced in a North Las Vegas courtroom full of friends and relatives who had hoped he is out on bail.

Meanwhile, on the opposite side of the courtroom, several alleged Chasing Horse victims and their supporters held placards.

Rulon Pete, executive director of the Las Vegas Indian Center, said after the hearing that victims were ready “to help ensure justice is served”.

“Unfortunately, there’s a lot of anxiety they’re going through,” he said after speaking with victims and prosecutors. “When this is pushed back, it’s like adding weight to the situation.”

Chasing Horse has been held without bail since he was arrested on January 31 near the North Las Vegas home he shares with several wives.

He did not enter an excuse.

Clark County Deputy District Attorney Jessica Walsh told the judge she expected evidence from Las Vegas police detectives, FBI agents and victims. A justice of the peace in North Las Vegas could also hear the news from Chasing Horse’s relatives.

Chasing Horse played Sioux tribe member Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner’s 1990 Academy Award-winning film.

Since then, he has built a reputation among tribes throughout the United States and in Canada as a “medicine”. Detectives described him in the search warrant as the leader of a cult known as The Circle, whose followers believed he could communicate with higher forces.

Mr. Pete describes the medical profession’s role as a highly respected leadership position. “If you will, they are like priests,” he said.

Las Vegas police said Chasing Horse abused his position, sexually and physically assaulting indigenous girls and marrying underage women for more than two decades.

He was also deported from the Fort Peck Preserve in Poplar, Montana, in 2015 following similar charges.

Police said the crime spanned multiple states including South Dakota, Montana and Nevada, where he has lived for about a decade.

According to the search warrant, Chasing Horse trained his wives in the use of firearms and instructed them to “shoot down” any authorities who tried to “separate their families”.

If that failed, or if he was caught or died unexpectedly, he told his wife to take “suicide pills,” the document said.

Detectives searched the family’s home.

They found guns, 41 pounds of marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms, and a memory card containing multiple videos of sexual assaults, according to an arrest report that said additional charges could be filed in connection with the videos.

Police say at least six victims have been identified, including one who was 13 years old when she said she was abused and another who said she was offered by Chasing Horse as a “gift” when she said she was abused. she is 15 years old.
