Frustrated Dancing On Ice fans begged the show’s host to update the format after they were ‘bored’ ahead of Sunday night’s finale.
The final season of the ITV show saw Regan Gascoigne and Brendan Cole go head-to-head over the interpretation of Bolero as they battled for first place.
Bolero was a favorite of Jury Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean when they won the gold medal at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics in 1984. Maurice Ravel’s ensemble made the couple famous around the world. .
The show’s tradition has seen the final two contestants attempt iconic processes for the top spot.
But it seems fans are less than impressed to see the same process and the same finale format year after year.
Viewers took to Twitter to beg the Dancing on Ice producers to drop everything and get rid of Bolero.
One depressed viewer wrote: “I think it’s time to drop #Bolero on #DancingOnIce. It’s old… We could do something new.”
“Who else is tired of bloody Bolero?” a second person was asked, while a third suggested that even judges should be sick of seeing the process.
“I know they won the Winter Olympics with it but surely even Torville and Dean are fed up with Bolero …” they quipped.
Another added: “Bolero back to the same dance 15 years ago or something, not even special now.”
A fifth said: “F*** me, they’re still talking about Bolero. #DancingOnIce.”
After the performance, Regan was crowned champion of this year’s series.
Speaking after their victory was announced, Regan was mostly speechless but can admit that he couldn’t believe he had won.
Kimberly, Regan and Brendan’s presence in the final caused some controversy, as they all have professional dance backgrounds.
Regan is a trained dancer, Brendan appeared on Seriously come to dance was a pro for several years and Kimberly is best known for being part of the Pussycat Dolls.
However, all three denied it was a “fix” that they were all there instead of any of the other skaters.
“If we were all the same, wouldn’t that make for a really dull performance?” Brendan said in defense of the fix’s claims, “It just so happens that the three of us already have dance experience and we’re all now pushing each other to do the most incredible televised show. “
