Dancing on Ice: Brendan Cole scores first 10 of this series

Brendan Cole hit the ice with sidekick partner Brendyn Hatfield on ITV’s Dancing On Ice on Sunday night and fans loved it – but they’re not alone.

The judges also gave their seal of approval to the epic process, giving Brendan the first 10 of the series.

His original professional skater Vanessa Bauer was replaced this weekend after testing positive for Covid-19.

Brendan was confirmed to perform with Brendyn earlier this week, and Vanessa hopes to return as soon as possible.

Arriving at the rink on Sunday, the men performed an incredible series of moves and spins, as did the Judges Challenge.

There didn’t seem to be any mistakes, and Brendyn and Brendan were delighted with the process as it ended.

Then the judges gave their scores, and he was given two nines and two 9.5s.

However, it was Arlene Phillips who gave him and Brendyn a 10 out of 10, his first 10 in the series – and the first 10 for any couple in the series.

Brendan was speechless and emotional, when he thanked Vanessa, Brendyn and everyone backstage who helped him get there.

ITV confirmed Vanessa will be replaced over the weekend in a statement on Tuesday, which read: “Unfortunately, Vanessa Bauer is unable to skate this weekend after testing positive for Covid-19. We look forward to Vanessa’s return to competition soon.”

“Brendan Cole will still be performing on Sunday’s show and will team up with professional skater Brendyn Hatfield.”

Figure skater Vanessa, who has topped the charts in recent weeks with Brendan, shared her disappointment at the news, as she was forced to miss out.

She said: “I am disappointed that I have tested positive for Covid and will not be able to perform with Brendan for Musical Week. But I am very happy that Brendan can skate and challenge himself with one person. You are amazingly professional in Brendyn .

“I have no doubt they’re going completely broke this Sunday. I’m looking forward to returning to the competition to showcase more creative habits!”

Meanwhile, bosses are said to be worried that the show will be forced to air this Sunday after Storm Eunice causing chaos during the week.

The hit skating show was filmed at Bovingdon Airport in Hemel Hempstead, which is already windy.

However, the crew is said to fear that history could repeat itself for a ITV shows, and is concerned that the carriages and cabins on site may be damaged.

It comes later I Am A Celebrity was broadcast for three days after the set was severely damaged by Hurricane Arwen last year.

An insider told Daily Star that they have “stretched themselves up”.

A source on the show also told the Mirror: “The show took a number of precautions today as the health and safety of our cast and crew is paramount. but we’re very confident it won’t affect Sunday’s show.”

Even so, the show went well, with the series unhindered by another storm.

Dancing On Ice airs at 6pm every Sunday on ITV.
