Dancing With The Stars: The first four contestants reveal the reason for joining – ‘I have the pizazz gene’

The first four famous contestants of this year’s Universal Dance have revealed their reasons for joining the show.

anti Bliss aka Rory O’Neill, singer Brooke Scullion, former Dublin footballer Paul Brogan and businesswoman and influencer Suzanne Jackson, will be among the 11 celebrities who will hit the dance floor for the series hit movie when it returns to RTÉ 1 in January.

Ms Scullion, a native and singer, says learning to dance is much more difficult than it looks. She said her grandmothers are “crazy fans” of the show.

Brooke will represent Ireland at Eurovision in 2022 with That’s Rich, which she co-wrote.

“I thought it would be a lot easier than it actually is, there are bones that I think are muscles in the foot that are hurting. It was very difficult,” she said.

“Singing and dancing is a lot easier because my dancers do all the work.”

When asked if she was prone to injury, she said: “Oh my. Are we going from the foot up or the head down? Basically, I broke my toe, broke my leg while skiing upside down. , broke my kneecap and had to have surgery, and I broke my skull.”

Panti Bliss, Ireland’s most famous drag artist will be part of the first same-sex couple to compete on DWTS.

O’Neill has performed as Panti since 1998 and in 2007 opened the Panti Bar on Capel Street in Dublin, which has become one of Ireland’s most popular gay bars.

“The idea of learning how to dance properly, I practiced a lot of choreography, but I never really danced and I also wanted to get back to my pre-Covid thin body and people told me I would. “Panti said.

“I had space on the mantelpiece for that Sparkling Orb. I’ve worked with Twink and Linda Martin so I’m not afraid of anyone.

“I think it’s about time we have a same-sex partner here, that’s very important. Panti will do most of the dance but I insist on doing one so you get the picture, here are two guys dancing and that’s totally fine.

“I asked a lot of people who went to the show and they all said it was a great experience, you get thin, it’s like a big family. Usually whatever I do my family doesn’t care, but this, they’re like ‘you’re doing it’.

“I have the pizza gene and that means a lot. Sure, the judges don’t know anything,” laughs Panti.

“We’re working on it, it’s a slow process but we’re doing our best,” he said.

“I have two left feet and it’s only going to get worse as the show goes on. It’s tough, I’m just starting to respect the dancers. You look at it and think it looks easy. It’s hard. difficult but I am very excited about the show.

“My two brothers are giving me a little hard time about it, but you expect it, it’s all love.”

Suzanne Jackson, who recently stepped down as CEO of trading company Sosu Cosmetics and Dripping Gold, said her family was a bit shocked when she decided to participate but they were very supportive.

“It was extremely difficult. I couldn’t believe how hard it was. I did some Irish dances when I was younger, but I didn’t move my upper body,” she said.

“Hips a bit, feet a bit but that’s about it. Look, that’s great. That is a new challenge for me.

“I’m a bit of a thrill-seeker and I’ve always loved the movie Dirty Dancing. I’ll bite the apple and learn to chew later.”
