Toy giant Hasbro has sold one of Ireland’s largest animation studios, Boulder Media, to Australia’s Princess Pictures.
Boulder Media’s Dublin-based animation portfolio includes work on Hasbros transformers and My little Pony franchise along with TV shows like Go Jetter and Dangerous mouse.
New accounts for the multi-award-winning Boulder Media show, which announced three dividends totaling €8.7 million last month before the sale of Princess Pictures closed on October 17.
Speaking of the deal, Boulder Media general manager Jenni MacNeaney told US entertainment industry online publication Deadline, “This synergistic relationship opens up unique opportunities for our future and allows us to expand our creative offering in the marketplace.”
“It’s an exciting step forward in building the Boulder brand, one that recognizes the great work we’ve done over the past 22 years, while preparing us for future success.”
Hasbro bought Boulder Media in 2016, and last year Boulder Media saw its pre-tax profit fall 22 percent to €2 million.
Sales fell sharply by 38% from €28.18 million to €17.54 million
The number of employees fell from 326 to 195 last year.
Boulder directors said they are pleased with the company’s performance for 2021 and “are confident that the company will continue to be profitable going forward.”
