DANIEL Craig only agreed to play James Bond after Steven Spielberg told him, “It’s a winner.”
He asked the director to review the script for the 2006 film Casino Royale because he was nervous about getting the role.
Long-serving 007 saw Spielberg, 75, on vacation and couldn’t resist his opinion.
Director, who won an Oscar for Schindler’s List and Saving Private Ryan, telling Craig he had to come in as the seventh actor to play the British secret service.
Craig said: “Steven happened to be staying at the same hotel.
“Can you have one more Hollywood moment? And I asked, ‘Can you read this? “
“He read it very quickly and said, ‘You have to do it.
“It’s very important to me that someone like him should be as inspired by it as I am.”
Despite the potential that Bond has been offered, Craig, 53, remains skeptical.
He explains, “I have worked with incredible directors on some great films. I was worried. I thought, ‘I don’t want to be Bond and ruin all that’.
“But I did read the Casino Royale script. It’s like, “Okay, everything will be fine”. ”
Craig went on to play 007 in five films until last year’s No Time To Die.
