Dave recently went viral after “randomly picking” a teenager from the Coachella audience to perform with.
Fans were both excited and confused when he brought “Spike from London” to the stage at the American Festival on Sunday April 17 to perform his and AJ Tracey’s hit song “Thiago Silva”.
It turns out that Spike is actually director Richard Curtis’ 18-year-old son.
Richard wrote and directed Love Real, The Boat That Rocked and About Time. He also wrote Yesterday, Bridger Jones’s Diary and Notting Hill.
His sister Scarlett took to Twitter to reveal that the teenager has “school tomorrow” and proudly shared the viral clip.
“This.is.my.brother.Spike.At.Coachella WITH DAVE!” She said. “He’s 18. He has school at 8 tomorrow.
“He was picked out of the crowd. We’ve never seen him rap before…”
While most Dave and Coachella fans were stunned by the sweet onstage moment, many questioned whether Spike was truly “randomly” chosen from the crowd.
One user tweeted, “Absolutely stunned to know Dave singled Richard Curtis’ son out of the Coachella crowd????”
“Does that count as an industrial facility?” Another tweeted, while one said: “Yes… ‘randomly’ picked from the crowd… Yes totally believable.”
A skeptical fan added: “Nepo[tism] Babies never lose,” while another added, “Wow what a coincidence that he’s the son of a very famous director – what are the odds?!”
Spike’s mum Emma caught wind of the moment and proudly wrote: “My son. Not the phrase ‘my son’… that’s my real son. He has school tomorrow.”
Most fans took to social media to praise Dave for creating a memorable moment for the teenager.
“I LOVE THAT! As a mother of Dave fans, I know what this will mean! A memory that will never be forgotten,” commented one user.
Another said: “What memories for him already! Glorious!” while one added: “Wow… what a memorable moment.”
“Oh my god talk to the people bro,” said a proud Dave after Spike tapped out Tracey’s lines.

The Coachella moment wasn’t the first time Dave brought a young fan on stage to rap Thiago Silva.
During his performance at Glastonbury in 2019, Dave and “Alex from Glasto” went viral after the boy nailed the verse on stage.
Alex Mann gained thousands of followers and was even offered a record deal.
“I’ve had a couple of labels and a couple of producers message me, so it could be one thing,” he said NME after visiting the festival.
A lot of people at the time also thought the viral moment was staged, but Alex insisted it was real.
“I don’t really think I can give you an adequate answer. It’s her personal opinion,” he said.
