Dave Myers ‘over the moon’ returns to TV after cancer diagnosis
Dave Myers celebrated his return to TV seven months after announcing he had cancer by punching the air and cheering on a BBC cooking programme.
The 65-year-old man, best known as one-half of cooking duo Hairy Bikers with friend and colleague chef Simon ‘Si’ King, revealed in May this year that he was undergoing chemotherapy for cancer. .
Myers, who is known for her signature long black hair, appeared in good spirits on Saturday Kitchen with short hair and a striking red floral waistcoat.
He told host and chef Matt Tebutt: “It’s great to be back and what a way to spend Christmas here. We’re going to make coffee and hazelnut cakes, it’s a symphony where nuts meet coffee. Honestly, it’s good for Christmas, the angel Gabriel has skimmed your tonsils.
“I am so happy to be back!”
The chef joked during a preview of the BBC Breakfast program that he was “still breathing”.
Myers, who appeared on the show with King, later added: “It’s great to be back. It’s been a tough year, I can’t pretend otherwise, and there was a time when I didn’t think I’d be here for Christmas.

“I have to shout out to the doctors and nurses in Birmingham who brought me back together, the surgeon who got me back to walking and the nurse Marion who brought me a cake before chemotherapy. . Best banana bread ever.
“But it’s great to be back. Si is taking care of me, filling my freezer with minced meat and dumplings. Coming back into Saturday Kitchen is great, I think the first time we came here was 15 years ago.”
Myers has previously talked about health struggles, including finding out he has glaucoma – an eye disease that can lead to blindness.

In 2018, Myers revealed that he initially considered the condition a bad hangover.

King also spoke openly about having a brain aneurysm in 2014, later saying he was able to survive only by significant weight loss.
After meeting in 1995, Myers and King rose to fame as Hairy Bikers, with Myers appearing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2013.
