David and Victoria Beckham have donated £1 million to support children affected by the devastating conflict in Ukraine.
The retired player, 46, said that with his wife and four children “safely” at home, he felt “helpless” in the face of “scenes of despair” from Eastern Europe.
The Global Goodwill Ambassador has now issued an urgent UNICEF appeal to provide aid to those stranded in the war-torn country – after it was invaded by Russia two weeks ago.
He shared news of the call – through his 7 Fund initiative – on social media, confirming that he and his wife Victoria, 47, had raised one on their own. a big amount of money.
He did not reveal how much the couple have pledged, but a source told the Mirror the generous donation amounted to seven figures.
A source said: “David and Victoria have donated on behalf of their families to start the appeal. The scene in Ukraine is heartbreaking and they are determined to help.”
Announcing the initiative, David shared a video of himself on Instagram in which he said: “Like you, I have watched the situation in Ukraine unfold with horror and disbelief. Okay.”
He continued in the video: “Mothers are forced to run away with their children. Families are torn apart. Children are dragged out of their beds to become refuges in the night.”

The father of four says that “as a longtime Global Goodwill Ambassador” he knows how experienced humanitarian aid organization UNICEF is in deploying aid in conflict situations.
Discussing that support, he said they have people “on the front lines when refugees cross the border” in the hope of being given shelter in neighboring countries.

He continued, “That’s why […] I am setting up an urgent appeal through my Foundation 7 for UNICEF to help provide immediate aid. Victoria and I made a donation on behalf of our family to start the appeal.
David concluded by asking fans to donate: “We would be grateful if you would join us in helping UNICEF support these innocent children. Give what you can today. now on.”
Retired footballer has been an ambassador for UNICEF UK since 2005. He launched 7: The David Beckham UNICEF Foundation in 2015.
