If David Letterman compiled a top 10 list of hospitals, Rhode Island Hospital would probably be number one.
The longtime host of The Late Show With David Letterman, who resigned in 2015, thanked the hospital’s emergency room staff in a video in which he revealed he was visiting Providence with his son last August when he fell on the sidewalk and hit himself upside down and passed out.
“The ambulance comes and picks me up. They take me and my son to the ER in the ambulance and they sew me up, they x-ray my head, they do a CT scan, they scrub me,” says Letterman, 74, in a video about a minute long shared by Lifespan, the parent company of the hospital, was posted on YouTube.
Someone brushed his teeth and he was given fresh clothes, he said.
He says the experience was scary at the time, but the staff put his mind at ease.
“So I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to talk to me,” he concluded.
“So I only have nice things to say and things to think about Rhode Island Hospital and the ER.”
