DAVY Fitzgerald has revealed the “difficult situations” he faced while filming his RTE show.
Davy’s Toughest Team is returning this year, and Ireland’s Fittest Family coach has revealed his time on the show’s first season.
Each person must overcome a personal battle, with some family members or friends lost to drugs, while others live homeless.
Speaking of her time on the show, Davy told Ray D’Arcy on RTE Radio 1: “To be honest with you guys, it’s probably been a little bit out of my comfort zone. But at any given time I have Could be a little help for the young guys. , it’s not too bad.”
Davy said of the guys, and said, “The most important thing is getting them to talk, even off the camera that I see after the first night or two we were talking to ourselves – that’s great.
“I think they just need someone to listen to them and need that help.”
The hurdles star revealed how “some difficult situations” he had to manage and get through on the show.
The 50-year-old said: “There are some difficult situations.
“Like, I can miss a guy or two, we’re going to make a little progress and the next thing, a week later he just won’t get out of bed or he might have taken something he shouldn’t have taken. , it took him a little bit of will to make that progress, and the plans we laid out for them went up in smoke.
“But, with perseverance and staying with it… the progress they’ve made – to be fair, 90% of them have made serious progress, but one or two of them have already made it. go somewhere else. That’s great.”
Davy commended the young men and talked about how ignorant he was of what they had to deal with before speaking to them.
“I don’t really understand what some people go through,” he explains.
“I was thinking that I had certain problems with different things in my upbringing.
“But some of them – the obstacles that have been put on them are unbelievable. Homeless since childhood, living under the influence of drugs.
“I didn’t understand the whole thing until I actually talked to the boys.
“When I actually see it and talk to them and hear the situations they’re in and the difficulties they’re having – it’s really like coming home.
“You could say guys want a change and want out.”
