James Van Der Beek says he and wife Kimberly Brook didn’t try to have baby number six but insist son Remi was a brilliant surprise
James Van Der Beek has revealed his sixth child came as a surprise as he and wife Kimberly Brook have not been trying to have any more children.
The Dawson’s Creek star, 45, welcomed child number six with his second wife in November. The couple are already the proud parents of Olivia, 11, Joshua, 10, Annabel, 8, Emilia, 6, and three-year-old Gwendolyn.
And while he doesn’t plan on having a sixth child, the actor has thanked God for blessing the couple with baby Remi.
James took to Instagram on Thursday night and shared a selection of snaps of him lovingly holding the boy.
In the first picture, James can be seen planting a kiss on the tots’ head as they look out at the sunrise.
He captioned the post: “Thank god for the surprises. For the detours. For those times, the Universe heard my plans and said, ‘Yeah, that’s cute…try THAT’.
“We didn’t try to have more children. We were done. But thankfully, this chunky little angel knew better.
“And holding it reminds me of the benevolent forces out there who are probably laughing at my agenda and waiting for me to toss my ‘clarity’ in favor of an enhanced reality.”
He finished the sweet post, “Thank god for the surprises… and thank god we suck when we don’t get pregnant.”
James previously revealed he was “startled” to discover Kimberly was pregnant after the 40-year-old had previously suffered a series of miscarriages due to a weakened cervix.
The couple married 11 years ago after meeting in Israel in 2009.
They announced Remi’s birth in a sweet Instagram post showing the tot lying on his dad.
James wrote at the time, “Humbled and overjoyed to announce the safe, happy arrival of Jeremiah Van Der Beek (we called him Remi – not ‘dinosaur’ by the way),” he began.
He continued to speak about the couple’s last two pregnancies, which ended in heartbreak due to a late pregnancy loss.
He added: “Each child brings their own energy, their own manifestation of consciousness, their own lessons.
“Those we’ve lost have each gifted us different pieces of the puzzle…which makes us all the more grateful for the ongoing masterclass to enjoy with this sweet, wise little one.”
“(ps – To everyone in our community – both local and extended – who knew of our journey and accommodated our desire for privacy…thank you. May that respect and karma return to you all 1000 fold.) Life is beautiful .”
