Dead Cinematographer’s Husband Speaks Out About Filming in Baldwin

The widow of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer killed by Alec Baldwin on the set of “Rust” set in New Mexico last year, said in an upcoming TV interview that he is furious with the actor for denied responsibility for the fatal shooting.

“The idea that the person who took the gun and caused it is not responsible is absurd to me,” Matthew Hutchins told Hoda Kotb in an interview for NBC’s “Today” show scheduled to air Thursday morning. The show posted a short excerpt from the interview on Wednesday for a preview.

Last year, Mr. Baldwin, who was informed that the gun had no live ammunition before he disposed of it, said in a television interview that “someone is responsible for what happened and I can’t say who it was, but I know it wasn’t me.” He said he had not pulled the trigger before the gun fired, suggesting that it may have exploded after he pulled the hammer back.

Mr. Hutchins, who recently sue Mr. Baldwin together with other producers and crew members on the film, took issue with his account.

“I was furious to see him talk about her death publicly in such detail and then deny any responsibility after describing her killing,” Mr Hutchins said in the interview. interview with NBC.

His wrongful death lawsuit against Mr. Baldwin and others was submitted earlier this month. The lawsuit alleges Baldwin “recklessly shot and killed Halyna Hutchins” and said he should not have pointed a gun at anyone on set. Proceeds from the lawsuit will be divided between Mr. Hutchins and his 9-year-old son.

Mr Baldwin said in an interview last year with ABC News that he met Mr Hutchins and his son after the deadly shooting, recalling that he told Mr Hutchins: “I don’t know how. to convey to you my condolences. and I am willing to do whatever I can to cooperate.”

Baldwin’s attorney Aaron Dyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment but responded to the lawsuit that “any claim that Alec is reckless is completely untrue” and that the actors should have can rely on armorers and prop members to ensure that guns are safe to handle on set.
