The Russian people are not informed about thousands of deaths, indiscriminate bombing, destruction of cities, massacres of civilians and widespread rape of women and girls in their neighboring country, Ukraine
Today we call on Mirror readers to help educate the Russian people about the horrors of the war that is taking place in Ukraine on their behalf.
As devastating conflicts grab headlines around the world, the Russian people are not told – and such talks are made – of the thousands of deaths, indiscriminate bombing, destruction of cities, massacres of civilians, and widespread rape of women and girls in their neighboring country now an offense carrying 15 years in prison.
Honest media outlets were shut down and protests against the war were crushed with speed and severity.
From Moscow in the west to Yakutsk in the east, from Archangel in the far north of the Arctic Circle to Irkutsk in the south near the Mongolian border, the Russian people have no idea what is really happening in Ukraine.
Ever since the Russians invaded Ukraine on February 24, many Mirror readers have asked what they can do to help.
And while many have kindly donated to the Disasters Emergency Committee: Ukraine Appeal and offered to welcome desperate Ukrainian refugees into their own homes, it still doesn’t feel enough.
So today we are printing a letter in Russian that you can send to ordinary Russians to enlighten them to the truth and hopefully begin to fight the lies of President Vladimir Putin.
Our letter states: “We know that you are good people who want to live in peace and want to see your children grow up happy and healthy and caring for others.
But we also know that there is no free press in Russia and your leaders cheat you with a daily diet of lies about the war in Ukraine. Your President is not telling the truth.”

The Russian people are not even aware of the heavy losses suffered by their own armed forces – their own sons, brothers, fathers and uncles – in this evil conflict.
Cut out our letter in Russian, put it in an envelope and address it.

If you don’t have internet, maybe try your local library or ask a friend for help.
Posting a letter to Russia costs from £1.85 – and it can start to change hearts and minds among ordinary Russians who have done nothing wrong but are simply being run by a psychopathic dictator.
Dear our Russian friends
We are writing to you because we want you to know the truth about the war in Ukraine.
Britain is a friend of the Russian people. We play against your football teams and drink Russian vodka. We know you are good people who want to live in peace and want to see your children grow up happy and healthy and caring for others.
But we also know that there is no free press in Russia and your leaders cheat you with a daily diet of lies about the war in Ukraine.
You may not know that thousands of innocent people, including women and children, are being slaughtered. Or that Russian forces have withdrawn from Kyiv, leaving evidence that they executed many civilians, some of whom were shot in the back while their hands and feet were bound. We are also very sorry to report that women have been raped, sometimes in front of their children.
We know that your sons, brothers and friends are being conscripted against their will to fight in Ukraine. Unfortunately the lives of many of your young men
are already lost and we feel sorry for all those who mourn this terrible war. Please believe us when we tell you that this is Vladimir Putin’s illegal war, condemned by 141 countries around the world.
Your President is not telling the truth when he says Ukraine is a threat to Russia and full of Nazis. If you can’t or don’t want to believe what we write
Please at least ask yourself the questions that must be lurking in your soul. Why did your President silence the free press? Why are your young men sent to their deaths? Who benefits from this war?
We’re sure you don’t want to see more people die, more children grow up orphaned, more families torn apart.
We urge you to stand on the side of friendship between peoples.
