Deborah James discusses bowel cancer on Shameful Bodies

Dame Deborah James made her final appearance on television on Thursday night talking about the moment she received a heartbreaking bowel cancer diagnosis.

The 40-year-old blogger doesn’t think she’ll live to see Embarrassing Bodies air on E4, after doctors gave her just a few days to live after being discharged from the hospital last month.

Deborah is in hospice care at her parents’ home in Woking and has so far defied expectations and inspired the nation with the will to make the most of her final days.

On the show, Deborah candidly spoke to GP Tosin Ajayi-Sotubo about her diagnosis five years ago – telling the doctor it was “the last thing she expected” at just 35 years old at the time. at that moment.

On the show, she talks about the early signs of bowel cancer and how she thinks of it as “a disease of the elderly” in the hope it can help others feel they are in a similar situation. on one’s own.

She said: “I started pooping – we should say – eight times a day. And I used to be the once-a-day type of girl.

“Then I started to get really tired and I remember drinking countless cups of coffee just to try to keep myself awake.

“Then I started to lose weight and I started to have blood in my body.”

Speaking to GP Tosin, Deborah said this was when she had a “gut instinct that something was wrong”.

In the emotional scenes, she continued to let viewers know the reason “small talk, should never be taboo”.

She says “our favorite celebrities poo” so there’s no reason we shouldn’t talk about it more.

Dr Tosin went to Hammersmith in London to help educate people about stool color and when you should consult a GP.

Deborah explained on her Instagram Story earlier today: “I recorded this with the Embarrassing Bodies team quite a while ago but it was turned off tonight.”

This week, Deborah shared her joy at experiencing Royal Ascot again, even if still being alive has left her in “limbland”.

She said on Instagram: “I find myself living in limbo, not really knowing what the future holds and for how long.

“It’s a very stressful place of uncertainty because when I was discharged over a month ago I had a few days, maybe a week, to live. And I felt like that.

“But as we all know life doesn’t go according to plan, so I’m just grateful for what extra time, strength has been decided to bestow upon me. So in spite of the tearful tears, I look at the sunshine, smile, and think, wow, life is such a funny thing isn’t it!! Better enjoy it!”
