Deborah was initially diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer in December 2016, at the age of 35. After choosing to share her experience online, the 40-year-old became known by the nickname ‘Bowel Babe’, and became one of three hosts of BBC Radio 5 Live’s You, Me and the Big C programme. .
The star’s philanthropic endeavors recently hit the £4 million mark, with donations pouring into her cancer research fundraising initiative. She has raised more than 16 times over her original £250,000 goal for Cancer Research UK.

Now, the mother-of-two has expressed she’s “humbled and blown away” to be honored with a beauty.

Taking to Instagram to express her thoughts on this honor, the podcast host wrote: “I don’t even know where to start with tears welling up. I humbled myself and blew that 5 years away. talking about poo can lead to a Damehood! I feel honored and shocked that I was even considered.”

She went on to praise the “solid” support of her followers over the past four days, following the launch of the Bowel Babe Foundation to benefit a number of cancer charities. Dame Deborah says that every day she fails to understand the “kindness and generosity” of people.
She went on to give her “sincere” thanks to “the wonderful people in the world”, and expressed gratitude for the “unconditional” support she has received since her diagnosis in 2012. 2016.
Accompanying her thoughts on the good times, the star revealed she “is getting drowsy and finding life a little harder”. Praised and admired for her candid approach to public discussion of cancer, Dame Deborah went on to discuss the impact of her podcast and her advocacy efforts, adding: “Conversations Small talk can really save lives. Small talk can create ripples far beyond where we can see them, and where seeds can grow. [we’ll] never see their fruit. And there is something exciting and beautiful about that life cycle.
“With this money, hopefully more people will have more time with their loved ones. Who knows what kind of plants we might be able to grow, but when it’s done with hope, we pray that some flowers are going to be game changers for our children and more to come.”
James began co-presenting the podcast, You, Me And The Big C, with Lauren Mahon and Rachael Bland in 2018, and they have received praise for their candid discussions about cancer.
Bland died that September at the age of 40, two years after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Appearing on BBC Breakfast, Bland’s widow Steve, who joined the podcast as a host after her death, said James was “trading very extraordinary”.
Dame Deborah recently revealed that hospice advised her to have “the most weeks” and shared about her final days with her family.
