Defender return to Brighton after recovering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma

ALBION have confirmed defender Rebekah Stott has returned to the club on a two-year deal, subject to international approval.

The New Zealand international first joined Albion in 2020, making eight appearances for the club.

However, she is forced to leave the club after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Stott flew back to Australia to undergo her chemotherapy in March 2021.

Treatment was successful and she has now been in remission for a year and has already made her return to the court.

She turned out for Melbourne City and Bulleen Lions.

The 29-year-old told BHAFC: “It was definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever been through in my life.

โ€œA lot of ups and a lot of downs, probably more downs.

“But I had a lot of support and I got through it and here I am a year later and I’m healthy again.”

Head coach Hope Powell has said it’s great for her to have Stott back and wants the defender to make a leap in the Women’s Super League.

She said: “The circumstances surrounding Stotty’s departure in 2020 have been truly difficult for everyone, none more so than her.

“She has only been with us for a short time but was already a popular member of the squad before returning to Australia for treatment.

โ€œWe were all delighted and relieved to learn that her treatment had gone well and that she was on the mend.

โ€œNow she is fully fit again and really wants to step on the gas at the WSL and we are happy to have her with us again.

“Taking the emotion out of the signing means we know we’re getting a really good player with proven international experience and knowledge of the league.”

“We are very much looking forward to working with Rebekah again.” Defender return to Brighton after recovering from Hodgkin’s lymphoma
