Deliveroo adds Klarna buy now pay later option for its deliveries

The food delivery service Deliveroo added a new payment option for its app that allows people to pay for their takeaways in installments.

Klarathe Buy Now, Pay Later service has been added as an option alongside credit, debit card and PayPal.

This allows people to pay off the cost of their curry, bring away Pizza or Fish and Chips up to 30 days later or in 3 equal installments over 60 days with a minimum purchase of £30.

These two payment methods are free of interest and fees acc Klarna’s website.

As reported by The subwaythis option has been criticized as “might encourage buyers to build up unaffordable debt” and as a result Klara could then pass on the arrears to collection agencies.

Missed payments would also show up on a person’s credit file and potentially impact how someone would pay for loans and mortgages.

In response to this personal finance expert Tara Flynn from the finance comparison site said: “If you are considering buying yours bring away pay for it now and later… not. There’s no point in going into debt over a meal that’s gone in 15 minutes.

“Having fast food delivered should be considered a treat every once in a while and if you can’t afford it then don’t do it.

“I find that irresponsible Deliveroo to offer this as an option and must seriously reconsider this move as soon as possible”.
