Denise Van Outen says she knows ‘when to walk away’

After splitting with fiance Eddie Boxshall, a defiant Denise Van Outen said: “I don’t want to be taken advantage of.”

The couple, who appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox, split in January after seven years, amid rumors Eddie had been texting other women.

Denise, 47, has an 11-year-old daughter, Betsy, who, after marrying Lee Mead, took a break from public life and social media, but has now begun to fight.

On BBC Radio 2, she said: “One thing I’m really proud of myself for is that I know when to walk away. Sometimes it hurts my career or in my own relationships, but I just feel that being a woman is really important to have self-worth and self-respect.

“I always try to maintain that in whatever I do in life, in general. It’s more of a mother because I feel like I’m a role model and I have to set an example.”

She is optimistic about the future. “The bad times are always followed by the good times and that is what I always aim for,” she said.

“I think you just have to get through the wave of bad times knowing that you’ll eventually get to a good place.”
