Loose women: Denise Welch recalls stalking challenge

Denise Welch revealed her ‘terrible’ stalking challenge on Thursday’s episode of Loose Women.

The former Coronation Street star joined Charlene White, Nadia Sawalha and Jane Moore on the ITV panel as she spoke about the recent lawsuit.

Toraq Wyngard, 64, was sentenced to seven years and seven months at Chester Crown Court earlier this month.

The court heard that, shortly before 11pm on September 19, 2020, Wyngard started a fire during an bypass outside the home Denise shares with her husband, Lincoln Townley, in Wilmslow, Cheshire.

Speaking about the ordeal on Thursday’s show, Denise said: “It was a pretty horrible time for everyone,” before recalling what happened on the night of the fire.

Denise was reading in bed at the time, when she heard a “piercing” scream and ran downstairs to find her husband and step-son in the driveway as they were “on fire”.

Thanks to cameras installed in their home, the perpetrator was caught on CCTV and police arrested him just two hours later.

However, he was not charged and was eventually released and returned to Denise’s home at a later date, where he scribbled the words ‘pimp’ and ‘witch’ on her gate along with a upside down cross.

“The main thing that got us through were the two women assigned to us from the Harm Reduction Unit because they were there for our mental and physical health as a result of what happened by because the guy is back.

“I’m filming, I wake up at 5 every morning and Lincoln wakes up with me every morning. We were scared, going to the corner bar I was scared!” Denise continued.

“It made you emotionally awful because Lincoln and I, like all of us, had to be apart for work reasons, and I was never scared. It changed that completely.”

Loose Women airs at 12:30pm on weekdays on ITV and ITV Hub.
