The third and final season of Derry Girls will be airing on TV screens on Tuesday April 12, Channel 4 has confirmed.
hannel 4 today published a first preview of the final season, which will have a total of six episodes.
All of the series’ favorite characters Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle and James will return for their swan song, as will Tommy Tiernan for his role as Gerry.
Nicola Coughlan’s character Clare is expected to have a reduced role in season three due to her involvement in Netflix period drama Bridgerton.
Lisa McGee, the series’ writer and creator, confirmed late last year that the third season would be the show’s final.
Derry Girls became an instant hit upon the release of its first season in 2018, but McGee said the show was always intended to be a coming-of-age production and the plan was always to “say goodbye after three series.” .
“Who knows if one day Erin, Claire, Orla, Michelle and James will return in a different guise, but for now it is for us,” McGee said in a letter to fans at the time.
Lisa said Derry Girls is “a declaration of love to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It was an honor to write it and I will always be proud of all it accomplished.
