Derry Girls creator reveals more special ‘encore’ episode to air after series finale

The Hit Channel 4 series Derry Girls will air its final episode later this month, but a special extra episode has now also been announced.

The creators of Derry Girls have announced that they have prepared a very special way to wrap up the final series.
Lisa McGee, writer and creator of the series, revealed that as well as airing the finale next month, there will also be an episode that lasts 45 minutes, 15 minutes longer than the regular episodes. , will also be shown in the same week.
The extended episode will focus on a pivotal moment in Northern Ireland’s history – a year since the Good Friday Agreement.
Agreement on how Northern Ireland should be managed will clash with Orla and Erin’s joint 18th birthday party, and they fear their special day might be overshadowed.

Lisa said: “Like all the best bands of the ’90s, I couldn’t resist ending our farewell tour with an encore for our loyal fans. .”
Continuing, Lisa said of the one-off special episode: “The special deals with the Good Friday Agreement vote are historic and important, coinciding with the time when the gangs mature, they step into adulthood as Northern Ireland embarks on a new future.”

The Channel 4 series first aired in January 2018 and is currently a series 3 due to popular demand, however it will be the final series.
It is Channel 4’s biggest comedy to premiere since 2004 and is a huge hit with audiences in Northern Ireland as it’s been the most watched TV series of the last 20 years.

The creator paid tribute to the much-loved show: “What a journey. I’m so grateful to Channel 4 for giving me the space to wrap up stories about characters that mean so much. for me with this special show. I really hope the fans love it as much as I do.”
While she’s never denied that she could bring the Derry Girls back to the screen one day, Lisa also said goodbye to the series she’s created: “The Derry people aren’t good at saying goodbyes.” so instead I’ll use one of our vernacular expressions “It’s We Go Now’.”
The finale of Derry Girls will air on Tuesday, May 17 at 9:15pm on Channel 4, and a longer special will also air the same week.
