Derry Girls: when, where and how to watch the final season of the hit Channel 4 comedy

The third and final season of Derry Girls will be airing on TV screens on Tuesday April 12, Channel 4 recently confirmed.

The first episode airs on Tuesday at 21:15 on Channel 4, with subsequent episodes airing every Tuesday thereafter.

Season three will have a total of six episodes, each airing on Channel 4 and All4 on Tuesdays until the season finale on May 17th.

The series will air in full on Channel 4 before hitting popular streaming service Netflix, so those hoping to catch the show will have to wait until summer at the earliest to do so.

For those who don’t have Channel 4 in their TV package, episodes will be available online on the All4 player which is free and available in the Republic of Ireland.

Channel 4 has released a first look at the final season and all of the series’ favorite characters Erin, Clare, Orla, Michelle and James will return for their swan song, as will Tommy Tiernan for his role as Gerry.

Nicola Coughlan’s character Clare is expected to have a reduced role in season three due to her involvement in Netflix period drama Bridgerton.

Lisa McGee, the series’ writer and creator, confirmed late last year that the third season would be the show’s final.

Derry Girls became an instant hit upon the release of its first season in 2018, but McGee said the show was always intended to be a coming-of-age production and the plan was always to “say goodbye after three series.” .

“Who knows if one day Erin, Claire, Orla, Michelle and James will return in a different guise, but for now it is for us,” McGee said in a letter to fans at the time.

Lisa said Derry Girls is “a declaration of love to the place I come from and the people who shaped me. It was an honor to write it and I will always be proud of all it accomplished.

“I want to thank the people of Derry and Northern Ireland for having our back.”

Ms McGee gave special credit to the crew who filmed the show and to Channel 4, of which she said: “The channel that got me writing comedy and the only channel that could have done our show”. Derry Girls: when, where and how to watch the final season of the hit Channel 4 comedy
