An 18-month-old baby was rescued and taken to safety by army officials after being put in a 500-foot deep well.

The baby, identified as Shivan Badhel, is reportedly living in the village of Dudapur in western India’s Gujarat region after a successful 40-minute rescue operation by the army on June 7.

The baby fell 20 feet into the 500-foot-deep well around 8 p.m. Tuesday while playing alone near a cabin on a farm where his family works as farmhands.

The footage shows a thick piece of rope hanging in a tunnel that appears to be underground.

A member of the rescue team then gradually pulls the rope in the direction of the top of the fountain, others tackle with all their strength and then help.

The baby’s cries grow louder as the end of the rope slowly reaches the ground.

Suddenly, a head appears and the rescue team quickly reaches out to pull the child out.
