The family of a 12-year-old boy who died suddenly at home two years after the death of his mother has paid tribute.

Layth Maumoniat, a seventh-year pupil at Allerton High School, died this week in Leeds, West Yorkshire.

His tragic death sparked a wave of grief at the school, with staff weeping in the corridors.

Layth’s devastated family said they were struggling to come to terms with his death.

Layth’s aunt told it The sun : “His father is not doing well at all, he is devastated.

“Layth came here every day to break his fast in Ramadan. Poor boy, he had too much on his mind.

“His mother took her own life two years ago. We are all devastated.”

Staff were seen weeping in the school’s corridors and hallways after learning of the death, eyewitnesses said LeedsLive.

Mourning for the boy erupted on social media, with many sending their condolences to the family.

A spokesman for Allerton High School confirmed they were told the student died but “haven’t heard anything since.”

They added: “Right now we can only confirm that one young student, a seventh grade student, has died.”

“We are working closely with the school to ensure staff and students are supported during this difficult time.”
