Liz Hurley has paid tribute to ex-fiancé Shane Warne following the shock news of his death aged 52.

The cricket legend died of a suspected heart attack on Friday, his management confirmed in a statement.

Liz has since spoken out about her grief, saying: “I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever. RIP my beloved lionheart.”

Shane was found unresponsive at his mansion and medical personnel were called, but despite best efforts, he was unable to be resuscitated.

Liz and Shane are known to have dated from 2010 to 2013 and were engaged to be married before their split.

And just last year, rumors circulated that they had reunited.

However, Shane wasn’t happy about the untrue reports and lashed out at a magazine after suggesting they had reignited their romance.

He raged on Twitter at the time: “For 30 years my children and I have had to put up with your lies and fabricated stories – not anymore.

“You shouldn’t be allowed to make things up. You will apologize to the Australian public for your constant lies and to my family as this is an absolute disgrace – AGAIN!

“And for that small minority out there who want to respond with smart comments — imagine what it would be like if someone was constantly making up stories about you and making them public for 30 years and the impact that is having on your mental health and your families!”

Shane has previously spoken openly about how difficult it was for him to be in a relationship with the model and Hollywood star, describing the interest that surrounded them as “an absolute circus”.

He once said, “We couldn’t go anywhere else because everywhere we went we only had 30-40 people, photographers, news crews.

“We had seven cars following us and a helicopter overhead following us straight through, running red lights and cutting off in front of us.”

Shane also once recalled one of Liz’s visits to Melbourne to see him in 2011 and how messy it had been.

He said: “We tried to keep things as normal as possible but it got scary.

“Some of these rogue photographers trying to do exclusives — I remember my youngest daughter Summer in the back seat yelling, ‘Dad, Daddy, slow down.’ Cars jump in front of us and run red lights.”

Despite the drama, the sports star once told the Mirror that his years with Liz were the happiest of his life.

He had confessed: “I miss the love we had. My years with Elizabeth were the happiest of my life. I wanted to be better with her.”

And he also once admitted he was disappointed their relationship was over, adding: “[I’m] pretty sad it’s over because I still care about her very much and she’s a wonderful person.”

Even after their split, Shane and Liz seemed to get along really well, even leaving the odd flirty message under each other’s Instagram pictures.

It has been reported in the past that Shane’s son Jackson had also maintained a close friendship with Liz’s son Damian.

Jackson once said of his dad and Liz, “Whether it’s comments on Instagram, messages, or congratulations, they’re super supportive.”
