Ubisoft has announced the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was handed over to Ubisoft Montreal.
The studio is responsible for the original Sands of Time trilogy.
“This decision is an important step and the team, building on the achievements of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, will now take the time it takes to regroup across the scope of the game to bring you the best experience for to offer this remake of all time classic when it’s done”, said Ubisoft in a statement.
Ubisoft also thanked everyone for their support and patience during the development of the remake. The company said it will share the game’s development progress at a later date.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was announced back in September 2020 and was originally scheduled for release in January 2021 before being pushed back to March of this year. Then came the news that the game had been delayed indefinitely.
The game allows the player to rewind time, undo death from traps or platforms, as well as freeze enemies and move objects during gameplay. It was originally released in 2003 to critical acclaim and is credited as the inspiration for the Assassin’s Creed series.
Rebuilt from the ground up using the Assassin’s Creed Origins engine, the game features new mo-cap motion, a new in-game camera, and redesigned combat.
