When my wife was dying, I lost all sense of time. Was that a day? One week? A month? Who knows! All of the normal events that chop our days and weeks into meaningful chunks have lost their stickiness. After Kate died, time refused to return to its normal rhythm for a while, instead going by in fits and starts.

It was weird. And made even stranger by the administrative tasks surrounding death. One of them organized the funeral – but I’ll come back to that another time.
