DICE’s solution to the Battlefield Gate 2042 XP problem: a confusing multi-tier system

DICE is back from the holiday season and one of the first items on the agenda is addressing the issue of earning XP in Battlefield 2042Portal Mode.

Immediately after the launch of Battlefield 2042, some people quickly started creating XP farming servers in the community Portal experience. DICE quickly caught on and decided to disable XP earned in Portal modes, with the exception of official modes created by the developers themselves or a few approved.

This was always intended as a short-term solution, but it ended up driving many players away from Portal. Today, the game’s developers revealed what will be done to fix these issues. For starters, all the changes outlined below will go live tomorrow, January 20 along with patch 3.2.

The XP per minute limit in the Portal is being increased to 300, enough to reward players without making XP easy.

Mastery and Weekly Quests can now progress in the Portal, but not in all situations. To help you understand these limitations, the developer has created this not-so-obvious chart. It shows that the Battlefield Portal classifies the experience into three different levels: Full, Medium, and Limited.

Full unlimited and work like the rest of Battlefield 2042. They will be limited to featured Portal experiences. One step below that is Medium – comes with a new 300 XP per minute cap – lets you progress through weekly quests and earn Mastery XP up to MR12. Final, Limit will only let you earn upto 300XP per minute and nothing else.

Moderate servers are those that use existing modifiers, excluding damage and HP, but not Rule Editor or AI. If your game mode uses an editor, has AI enemies, or adjusts HP/damage values, that mode will be considered Restricted under the new classification.

Unfortunately, unlocking the weapon and vehicle attachments is still exclusive to the outstanding Gate (Full) experience.

Of course, there aren’t any obvious signs of which servers have XP restrictions, which will make it even more confusing for players. The developer of the Ripple Effect portal is well aware of that fact and is working on a number of UI updates to make it easier to determine what kind of limitations each server has. However, the studio did not say when we can expect those UI changes to arrive.
