Manchester United have received a transfer boost against Benfica striker Darwin Nunez as their former striker Diego Forlan has been pushing for the move.

The Red Devils and arsenal were among the clubs who sent scouts ahead of FC last week to watch Nunez in action Summer transfer window. The Uruguay international is expected to be there one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe in the coming months after a sensational season in the Primeira Liga and Champions League.

Nunez has scored 34 goals in all competitions this season – including in both games European Cup match against Liverpool in the quarter-finals – while he recently handed United a potential Transfer Boost by confirming that he is changing his agent.

Benfica caretaker manager Nelson Verissimo has previously discussed the possibility of the striker making a move this summer, admitting the Lisbon giants could be looking to capitalize on Nunez. However, he hinted that any deal would come at a significant cost to any buyer and compared it to the £106m transfer V that brought Joao Felix from the club to Atletico Madrid three years ago.

Nonetheless, former United striker and Uruguayan legend Diego Forlan has encouraged his compatriot to move to Old Trafford. Forlan believes the Benfica forward would be a good fit at United and has prompted the two to strike a deal.

Speak with break the lines, the former United striker said of Nunez: “I think he’s a very good player, a good boy who’s doing really well at Benfica and having a strong season. Not only is he prolific in the Portuguese league, but also in the Champions League, where he has scored six goals this season and helped lead Benfica to the quarter-finals.

Nunez scored in both games in Benfica’s quarterfinals against Liverpool

“He’s a player with a lot of potential and he could fit in with Manchester United. But obviously everyone needs patience, although they only get better with experience.

“He wouldn’t be a bad signing for Manchester United and it would be nice to see him there. It’s a club that gives you time where you feel comfortable and feels like you’re in a familiar place, very cozy and nice. It would be spectacular if he played for Manchester United.”

The Uruguayan has emerged as a transfer target for United who are on the hunt for a new striker this summer. Edinson Cavani’s contract at Old Trafford expires this summer and the long-term future of Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcus Rashford are also uncertain.

Nunez was one of the stars of this season Champions League and most importantly in the group phase win over Barcelona, where the striker scored twice in the 3-0 win over the Catalans. His He scored his biggest goal in the round of 16 against Ajaxbefore scoring in both legs of the quarterfinals Liverpool – in which Benfica were defeated 6-4 on aggregate.
