DioField Chronicle is a new strategy RPG from Square Enix

Square Enix announced it has announced a new tactical strategy game called The DioField Chronicle on PlayStation State of Play.

This brand new tactical RPG offers a 3D take on the classic strategy genre. Check out the new cinematic trailer below for how turn-based strategic combat combines with 3D animation for extra flourish.

DioField Chronicle takes place on a war-torn continent and follows the conflict between the Trovelt-Schoevian Empire and the Rowetale Alliance. However, between the two hostile forces lies the lone Alletain Kingdom.

According to PlayStation, The DioField Chronicle uses the Real-Time Tactical Battle system and the development team includes character designer Taiki (Lord of Vermillion 3), Kamikokuryo Isamu (FF12, 13), and composers Ramin Djawadi and Brandon Campbell (Game of Thrones).

The combat seems to rely heavily on strategy with units moving across a battlefield. But the 3D animated elements bring the gameplay to life, and massive elements like giant flying dragons can be seen soaring over the top of the battlefield and shelling players and enemies.

This new franchise sits comfortably alongside many of Square Enix’s tactical RPGs, but the modern gameplay is certainly appealing. DioField Chronicle will be released in 2022 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
