A disabled teenager who once begged to “go to heaven” because his pain was so excruciating has finally found relief thanks to a new hot tub installed in his home.
Spencer Powell turned 18 over the weekend and celebrated in the toasty warm water with friends and family.
Spencer suffered a fetal stroke in the womb which resulted in him being born with physical disabilities, including cerebral palsy affecting all four of his limbs.
Water is one of the few things that relieves his pain and he was able to swim in a hydrotherapy pool before the Covid pandemic.

He also had a hot tub at his Staunton home, but unfortunately it broke, which mum Emma, 37, said made Spencer’s condition badly worse. Gloucestershire Live Reports.
“He said to me, ‘I want to go to heaven. It’s too painful to stay here,’ and he closed his eyes,” she said last year.
“It broke my heart. I don’t want him to go.”
She asked for donations to raise money for a new tub, and the congregation came through, to the delight of mother and son.
Spencer looks forward to knowing that his mom can give him a soothing massage and physical therapy every day after a dip in the hot tub.

She said: “We were so lucky to get the hot tub from Hot Tubs Rock for half the price.
After that, it was all about bringing everyone together when they were free to get the job done.
“A frame had to be built to allow the wheelchair to go straight to the hot tub as there was a step down. We had hoped it would be ready in March, but I was done in time for Spencer’s birthday.
“Spencer loved watching the work. He sat there and watched it all coming together through the patio doors and was almost like a project manager for the installation.”
Emma has seen the almost immediate benefits of Spencer in the hot tub.
“Spencer enters the hot tub in the shape of his chair, but when he’s in the water his body almost unfolds.
“He’s got contractures where his bones are stuck, but we can get him straight in the water.
“The first time he was able to get in after such a long time, he was so relaxed.
“We are so grateful to everyone who donated to Spencer to get the hot tub and those who did the tough transplant to get it fitted, we truly are.”
