Grand National 2022: Everything you need to know

A trainer was left “heartbroken” by the death of his horse in 2022 Grand National.

Discorama died after being pulled up in front of the stadium’s 13th fence with an injury Aintree Run. Bryan Cooper reported the two-time winner was paralyzed – and on Saturday night trainer Paul Nolan confirmed the injury was fatal.

He continued Twitter : “We are heartbroken to have lost Discorama at Aintree today. Bryan raised him because of an injury. Our condolences to his owners Andrew Gemmell & Tom Friel.”

After the race, all horses returned to the stables and no serious medical concerns were reported regarding the jockeys.

However, following further evaluation by Aintree’s veterinary team, a tragic update has now been released.

Professor Chris Proudman, Veterinary Advisor at Aintree Racecourse said: “After the race, Discorama, who had pulled up on the level between the fences, was further examined at the Aintree Veterinary Treatment Facility in the stables. It was with great sadness that we discovered that he had sustained an untreatable pelvic injury and it was now necessary for animal welfare reasons to put him to sleep. Our thoughts are with his connections.”

Earlier this afternoon, Est Elle Belle died while hurdling on the Grand National Card.
