Disney+ unveils huge price hike – but there’s a trick you can use to temporarily avoid it

DISNEY+ is gearing up to increase subscription costs in the US very soon – but there’s a clever way to avoid it.

Starting December 8th, the service will cost $3 more per month.

Disney Plus plans to launch an ad support plan in December

It will go from $8 a month now to $11 thereafter.

While nothing has been officially announced for other countries like the UK, some commentators expect a similar surge next year.

The price change comes just as Disney prepares to launch its own ad-supported, cheaper tier.

Netflix has already launched their own and is charging $6.99/£4.99.

If you want to keep the standard Disney+ subscription with all the trimmings but no price increase, there’s a clever trick to get around that.

Unfortunately, it won’t allow you to escape the changes forever, but it will buy you some extra time.

You can purchase access for a year in advance. So if you do this before December 8th, you’ll lock in the current (and soon to be deprecated) price before it disappears for good.

So it’s worth thinking about ahead of the switch, which is a month away.

As for US viewers, Disney is also raising the price of Hulu.

But to sweeten the deal, the Mickey maker has some bundles.

For example, you can get Disney+ and Hulu with ads for $9.99.

Adding ESPN+ into the mix makes it $12.99.

While the ad-supported tier is coming to the US in December, the company plans to expand it internationally next year.

Adding a cheaper option is one way for Disney to get more people trying out its popular streaming platform.

At the end of 2021, Disney+ had 130 million paying customers.

Ads aside, there might be some other big differences.

Coding nerds recently got under the hood of the popular streaming service and found what they were looking for insightful details.

GroupWatch and SharePlay may not be available on Disney+ Basic.

These allow users to remotely watch a movie or TV show with friends and family.

Screenshots of the code show a message that appears to appear that reads, “Groupwatch and shareplay are not available for ad-level accounts.”

But we’ll have to wait until it launches in December to see if it comes true.
