Disruptions are expected in Lancing as road renewal is due to begin

INTERRUPTION is expected as major road renewal work is scheduled to begin.

The surface on a section of the A2025 Grinstead Lane in Lancing “shows signs of weakening”, according to West Sussex County Council.

Road renewal work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 18, to make the road smoother and therefore less noisy.

It will also be more resistant to potholes, the council said.

The work is due to be completed by Saturday July 23, depending on factors such as the weather.

The resurfacing is between the A27 Upper Brighton Road and the railway bridge – omitting the length between Crabtree Lane and Grinstead Avenue which has recently been resurfaced.

Working hours are usually between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

The section of road being worked on will be closed to all vehicles at these times and a signposted diversion will be in place.

A spokeswoman for West Sussex County Council said: “We are not choosing to undertake night-time resurfacing lightly. We have taken into account the greater disruption to the public that would be caused by day-to-day work on this busy road.

“Improvement projects of this nature will cause disruption to both residents and businesses, for which we apologize, but will result in long-term benefits.

“Every effort will be made to minimize the inconvenience: for example, our contractor will do his best to carry out the noisiest works at the earliest in the evening and before 11pm.”

Bus companies serving the area have been informed of these works. However, a minimal number of buses operate in this area during working hours.

Side streets may also be affected during the work.

Pedestrian access will be maintained and shops can remain open throughout.
