Brighton’s clock tower Christmas lights will not come on fully for another week due to a malfunction.
Teams installing festive lighting on the tower discovered a problem with a support bar on the West Street-facing side of the clock, requiring a new bar to be fabricated.
The other three sides of the bell tower’s Christmas-lit canopy are unaffected and are scheduled to be lit later as planned.
Brilliant Brighton’s Gavin Stewart, the organizer of the annual Brighton Christmas Lights, said: “This is the pinnacle of our annual Christmas Lights and it is a real pity that we are not able to launch the full program as hoped.
“Public safety is of course our number one goal and we look forward to resolving the issue quickly.”
Organizers expect the clock tower to be fully illuminated by the end of next week.
Christmas lights in other parts of the city, including North Laine, The Lanes and Western Road, will be illuminated from 4pm as part of a range of city center events including choirs and a marching band.
