A mum of two has explained how she completely transformed her bathroom with bargains from Shein and B&M for just £39.

Jenny Smith, 48, a part-time Cheshire real estate agent, painted her bathroom with a green wall and then furnished the room cheaply.

The rest of the walls were painted a very pale gray after Jenny wanted to bring more light into the room.

The bathroom was previously very dark and “looked dated” and needed some TLC, Jenny said.

Jenny moved into her house in December 2021 and has just started the renovation.

The DIY enthusiast says she has a “real passion” for real estate and turned to the internet for inspiration.

She estimates she saved £150 by completing the makeover herself.

Jenny told the DIY On A Budget UK money-saving Facebook group: “The bathroom was a very dark room.

“The tiles were absolutely fine, but they were painted sand beige and I thought they looked dated.

“I originally wanted to lighten it up, so I chose a very pale gray bathroom color (almost white) that covers the beige well.

“I had some green accessories from our previous bathroom, like a towel and mat, which I love the color of, so I decided to incorporate that into the color scheme.”

Jenny decided to use the wall behind the toilet to add a “pop of color” and found a “perfect shade of green” matte paint.

To soften the look, she wanted some sort of pattern – but worried about installing wallpaper, she opted for stick-on flowers she bought online.

“The shelf was another bargain I snagged on grocery shopping and the decor items I already had,” she said.

“The bathroom now looks so much brighter, cleaner and fresher, we love it!

“The decals are so easy to apply and quick to swap out if you want to create a different look.

“My advice to anyone doing their own makeover is to use the internet for ideas, but also choose colors and patterns that you like.”

Total cost for the paint was £25 from B&Q and Wilko, the stickers £6.25 from Shein and the shelf £8 from B&M.

“The items on the shelf are a plant from IKEA and a Buddha from The Range, which I’ve owned for a while,” Jenny said.

“Total spend was £39.25 and it took me a weekend to finish.

“It was definitely a lot cheaper than hiring a decorator as I only had to buy materials!

“I’m sure I’ve saved at least £150 as that’s the usual daily rate for a decorator.”
